Mr. Higbee

Hi, my name is Mr. Higbee, and I have the honor of being the TSW Coordinator here at Barry Goldwater HS! The 24-25 school year marks year two for me here at BGHS and year 10 for me as an Educator. I have a passion for students to gain transition learning and gain the skills and abilities for life after high school.  I have my Bachelors Degree in Special Education/Elementary Education and my Masters in Reading Instruction and Educational Administration. I am excited to continue my teaching career at Barry Goldwater HS and build an incredible TSW program.

I am also the Head Coach for Badminton and Men's Volleyball at Barry Goldwater HS! If you want to know more about the teams or to join, please feel free to stop by Room 627.

Transition School to Work

(TSW)

The Transition From School to Work (TSW) course will prepare students for the world of work by exploring career options, individual career preferences, and employability skills. Topics covered align with the Career and Technical Education standards, which focus on the following skills:

  • Complex Communication
  • Collaboration
  • Thinking and Innovation
  • Professionalism
  • Initiative and Self-Direction
  • Intergenerational and Cross Cultural Competence
  • Organizational Culture
  • Legal and Ethical Practices
  • Financial Practices

In addition, the course will focus heavily on self-advocacy, which refers to an individual’s ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate or assert their own interests, desires, needs, and rights. It involves making informed decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions. As part of the self-advocacy process, students will learn how to develop their educational plans and present them to their team. Further communication will come when the student’s meeting is scheduled.
