Mrs. Amanda Diehl
I am the teacher for the IB Chemistry 1 and 2 classes and Chemistry Honors. While I am originally from California, I moved to Arizona in 2013 and absolutely love living here! While in California, I received my Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry from California State University, Chico in 2010. In 2022, I completed my Master's of Science in Chemistry. My hobbies include spending time with my husband and our dogs, watching sports, jogging, bike riding, and hiking.

Welcome to BGHS Science!
If you are in my IB Chemistry 1 or 2 class:
Chemistry is an experimental science that combines academic study with the acquisition of practical and investigational skills. It is often called the central science, as chemical principles underpin both the physical environment in which we live and all biological systems. Apart from being a subject worthy of study in its own right, chemistry is a prerequisite for many other courses in higher education, such as medicine, biological science and environmental science, and serves as useful preparation for employment.

If you are in my Chemistry Honors Class:
Chemistry is the study of the composition of materials. The areas covered in this class include the basic structure of atoms, how atoms combine to produce molecules, and how symbols and formulas are used to write chemical equations. The prerequisite for this class is Algebra 1-2. The skills will be assessed individually and collectively multiple times throughout the semester in order to determine student growth and achievement. Students are encouraged to work toward the highest level of achievement and to challenge themselves to grow and learn to their highest ability. Please check Canvas or Powerschool and the BGHS / course website for the Standards, Performance Objectives and Rubrics for grading.
